Pop-Up Birthday Card for A Bookworm

It’s the Karen Burniston design team challenge for February 2025 using the theme of Bouquets. We were asked to make a card with a bouquet using some of the new Bouquet Bits and Flower Pot Add-ons. For this challenge I chose to make a birthday card for someone who enjoys reading. (You can see other bouquet pop-ups by clicking here.)

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: The card base is made from a lightweight white cardstock measuring 5.5×8.5-inches and folded in half to for a side fold A2 (5.5×4.25-inch) card. I covered all four panels with library themed papers from Stamperia.

Pop-Up: For the brown pot of fern-like seedlings is made with the Flower Pot Pop-Up die set. (Follow the assembly video at the bottom of the linked page.)

Decorations: Tea and books often go together and the Tea and Coffee Borders set has both teapots and teacups. The green picks that the sentiment and books are attached to come from the Bouquet Bits die set. The green foliage pieces come from the Flower Pot Add-ons set. The books and bookworm are all from the Bookworm set.

Sentiments: The square stamped sentiments use the Photo Memories stamp set and the square dies to cut them out from the Photo Fan Pop-Up.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) envelope. The same sentiment from the card front is stamped on the envelope back flap.

Cruising On Your Birthday!

This card was made for Craft Roulette #252 whose parameters included a card for a teenager, morning colors, fairy (fairies), and bow(s). I choose to interpret fairy as fairy lights and bow as a bow of a ship.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: My double sided paper from Carta Bella was cut into a 6.5×10-inch rectangle and folded in-half. The wave decorations were cut using Karen Burniston’s Ocean Edges die set.

Cruise Ship Pop-Up: The cruise ship is made with two die sets by Karen Burniston – Boat Pop-Up and Cruise Ship Add-ons. (You can watch assembly videos for both sets by clicking on their links and going to the bottom of the linked pages.)

Pear Blossom Press Twinkle Lights were used to light-up the ship and the ship’s wheel (from Karen Burniston’s Cruise Charms die set with Pear Blossom Press’ “push” stamp) covers the battery and indicates where to press to turn on the lights.

Sentiments: Β The “Wishing you…” sentiment is from Karen Burniston’s Cruise Greetings stamp set and the “HBD!” is from Craft Roulette’s Funn Friends #02 stamp set. The sentiments are stamped in black ink on labels cut from Karen Burniston’s Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch and Labels – Crosshatch die sets. You can download the paperclip slip.

Envelope: Β The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inches) size envelope with “HBD!” stamped all over the back flap and sealed with a sticker from the paper collection.

Hoppin’ Poppin’ Bunnies

Inspired by someone who loves bunnies, I made this free-standing pop-up birthday card. I used some dies by i-crafter which sadly is no longer making new products. You can still find some of their dies on ebay, esty and a few on-line stores. Hoping that the designer of these dies – Lynda Kanase will find a new company to work with to produce this fun Box Pops-Oval Base once again.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Bunnies and Grass:  Cut three of the bunnies die from the Box Pops Easter, Add-on set from white and four of the small grass die in white. Cut two pop-up strips from the Box Pops-Oval Base set and trim off tab on each piece. Color the grass on all pieces and tops of pop-up strips with a green alcohol marker. Glue the three bunny piece together. Glue to one side of oval base before glue the base altogether.

Oval Pop-Up Stand:  Cut the main die in the Box Pops-Oval Base twice from heavy patterned cardstock. Follow assembly directions in video. Glue two grass strips to each pop-up strip to form a β€œT” shape. Place a pop-up strip into slot in oval base and fold tab where it meets the base bottom. Glue in in place. (I added a 1×4.5-inch strip of white to the back for a personal message.)

Sentiments:  β€œHappy Birthday” was cut twice – once from coral and once from white cardstock using Firefly dies The white was off-set slightly as the bottom layer when the two colors were glued together. The words were brushed with a glitter gloss to make them sparkle.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope. I stamped a bunny holding a heart with the words β€œEspecially for you” on the back envelope flap.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game!

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s January 2025 release of eight new dies and four new clear stamps sets. For this baseball card I used several of the new die sets including: Paper People, Popcorn and Flower Pot Add-Ons along with the previously released Flower Pot Pop-Up, Tiny Accessories 3, Easter Charms, Space Charms and Rectangles – Crosshatch. The new release will be available on January 27, 2025.

Watch the video below to see how this card was made.

Cardbase: I started with an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2-inch piece of patterned paper folded in half to form an A2 side-fold card. The inside was covered with two rectangles of striped paper cut using the largest of the Rectangles – Crosshatch dies.

Baseball Player: Using the Paper People die set Cut one body, one hair piece, one mustache, one t-shirt and one pants. From the Tiny Accessories 3 set cut one of the engineer’s cap. Watch the process video above to see how to style these pieces into a baseball player.

Cracker Jack Box Pop-Up: Β Follow the assembly video directions (located at the bottom of the linked page) for the Flower Pot Pop-Up, but add the Popcorn decorator pieces to the pot before installing it in the card. (I made the caramel corn “Cracker Jacks” by coloring the popcorn pieces with alcohol markers and coating with Glossy Accents a clear gel. The peanuts are cut using the jelly bean charm from the Easter Charms set.) The box is attached to the card using the Flower Pot Add-On set’s square scalloped doily with tabs. The Cracker Jack prize packet is a computer generated piece of paper torn open to reveal a pink plastic alien toy charm cut using the Space Charms die set.

Sentiments:  All the sentiments are from the patterned papers and the “Cracker Jacks” was computer generated.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 size envelope.

Popcorn Lover’s Birthday Card From All of Us

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s January 2025 release of eight new dies and four new clear stamps. For this Birthday card I used several of the new sets including:  Popcorn, Paper People and Triple Platform Pop-Up die sets and the Popcorn Phrases clear stamp set. The new release will be available on January 27, 2025.

Watch the video below to see how this card was made.

Cardbase: I started with a white 65lb cardstock rectangle that was 7.5 x 8.75-inches and folded it in half to form a top-fold horizontal 3.75 x 8.75-inch slimline card. Next, I cut four of the largest die in the Long Rectangles – Crosshatch set from striped red paper and cover each of the card panels.

Snapshots of People: Using the Paper People die set create six people from the waist up. Cut six white photo frames and back rectangles using the Photo Collage Pop-Up die set. Follow the instructions in the video on how to make the snapshots of people and how to install them onto the pop-up platforms.

Triple Platform Pop-Up:  Using the Triple Platform Pop-Up die set, cut two of the large mechanism die from lightweight white cardstock. Cut six sets of the parallelograms and four sets of the triangles from pattered paper and two additional sets of parallelograms from white cardstock. Watch the video for how to assemble and install the mechanisms into the cardbase.

Sentiments:  There are three sentiments on the card – β€œHope your Birthday is poppin”, β€œfrom all of us” and β€œHappy Birthday.” The first was stamped using the Popcorn Phrases clear stamp set with black ink onto white cardstock and die cutting it using the fancy stitched label in the Triple Platform Pop-Up die set. The second phrase was die cut from the Word Set 18 – Connectors while the third was cut using the Happy Birthday die. All the die-cut words were cut from upcycled cardboard packaging/junk mail. Popcorn kernels (highlighted with a yellow marker) were added as decorations to the front and back of the card from the Popcorn die set.

Envelope: The card fits into a #10 business size envelope which was stamped with another sentiment from the Popcorn Phrases stamp set – “You make everything Butter!”

Button Heart Gate Fold Aperture Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #250 whose parameters included a funn fold card, nostalgic colors, blanket element and buttons.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Details and supplies used are below.

Cardbase: Cut a 5.5×12-inch piece of light pink cardstock. Score at 2-inches, 4-inches, 8-inches and 10-inches. Fold as shown in video. On the gate fold panels, place heart die with center points over the fold and die-cut. Repeat on other side lining up the die to make a mirror image. I used the third largest die in Karen Burniston’s Hearts – Crosshatch set.

Buttons: I cut 70 buttons from four shades of pink cardstock. Using thin cotton string, thread the buttons’ holes and hand-tied knots to all of the card front buttons. The buttons were cut using Karen Burniston’s Sewing Charms die set.

Sentiments: All sentiments stamped in black ink on two rectangular panels cut using Karen Burniston’s Rectangles Crosshatch die set. “Happy Birthday is by Rubbernecker Stamps and the other two sentiments are Riley and Company’s Funny Bones stamps.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) size envelope. A die-cut button was glued to back flap to hint at whats to come.

A Pop-Up Zoyfold Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #249 whose parameters included a zoyfold card, elegant colors, front door and three circles. (This is my second zoyfold card. Click here to see my first.)

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Details and supplies used are below.

Cardbase: The cardbase is really a blend of two cardbases together. The larger card is a 5×7-inch landscape/horizontal z-fold card with an almost square 4 1/2x 5 1/2-inch card for a joyfold card Hence the newly coined card fold – the zoyfold (The term was coined by Mary Gunn Funn and Irene β€œHattrick” Smith on the Craft Roulette Members Show #244.) Watch the process video for assembly instructions. The back of the card is covered with striped paper and a scalloped rectangle from the Karen Burniston’s Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch die set.

Gingerbread House: (Watch the assembly videos for the Tiny House Pop-Up and Gingerbread Tiny House Add-ons at the bottom of each of the linked pages.) I used Nuvo Jewel Drops, Nellie’s Choice Snow Effects and adhesive backed peppermint candies to decorate the gingerbread house before attaching the house to the card with hot glue.

Sentiments: All sentiments are by Karen Burniston. ”You’re Sweet!” and β€œHappy Birthday” die cuts. The envelope sentiment is from the Sweet Treats stamp set.

Envelope: The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inch) size envelope.

A Charming Accordion Birthday Card

It’s the Karen Burniston design team challenge for January 2025 using the theme of First 100 Craft Dies of KB Riley LLC. We were asked to make a card using any of the die sets with item numbers between 1001 and 1100. For this challenge I chose to make a six panel Charm Accordion birthday card based off one Karen Burniston made in 2018. (You can watch her video of this card at the bottom of this linked page for the Charm Accordion die set.)

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: The finished cardbase folds down to 3 1/2-inches wide by 4 1/2-inches tall by 3/8-inch thick. To make the cardbase, cut three of the Charm Accordion double panel die from heavy cardstock. Cut the double panels in half to separate the panels. Cut five 3/4-inch wide by 4 1/2-inches tall strips of the same cardstock. Die cut five of the tabbed square connector pieces from heavy cardstock. Watch the video on how to assemble. Cut decorative papers to create frames for each panel as directed in the video.

Charms: Two different die sets were used for the charms that dangle in the connector frames. The present with a bow, the party hat and the cupcake are from the Birthday Charms set while the butterflies are from the Charm Accordion set. I used the stencil feature of the cupcake die to color in the sprinkles with fine tipped markers.

Sentiments: The letters that spell the word β€œHAPPY” were cut using the Alphabet set while the word β€œbirthday” comes from Word Set 2 -Birthday.

Envelope: Because of the thickness of this card, it would have to be hand-delivered or mailed in a padded envelope as a package.
