Concord & 9th Nutcracker Cards

Welcome to Day 2 of my Nutcracker series using a variety of stamps and die sets to make some nutcracker themed cards. My card today uses products by Concord & 9th along with stamps from Scrapbook and Cards Todayβ€˜s Christmas in July – Jolly Holiday 2024 event.

Watch the process video below to learn how this card was made.

Cardbase: Cut from white light-to-medium weight cardstock one 4.25 x 11-inch rectangle and folded in half to form an A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) cardbase. Cover with outer two panels with patterned paper. (Do this for card 1 or card 2. For the blue card 1, use the smaller oval die in the Nutcracker Dies set to cut a window aperture into the card front. Save cut-out oval and glue to card inside to fit into the window. Use both oval dies to cut out a red frame and glue to front of card around the window. I also adhered clear glitter to the inside oval using Glossy Accents.)

Nutcrackers: Follow the video above for assembly or look at packaging for ideas. (I used the coordinating enamel shapes for the hat feather, belt, shoulder epaulets and boots, but there are dies to cut these pieces as well.)

Sentiments: Using the banner and word dies included in the Nutcracker Dies, cut a banner from white cardstock and either “merry” or “JOY” from colored or patterned paper and glue to banner. Add to the card front. Decorate with holly or leafy stems from the die set or use enamel holly leaves and berries. Inside the green card 2, stamp “everything” in black to match the die-cut “merry” from the card front. Then, using ink to coordinate with the card front paper, stamp a pine branch on the top inside panel and in black on the outside back panel. The stamps I used were from Scrapbook and Cards Todayβ€˜s Christmas in July – Jolly Holiday 2024 event.

Envelope: The cards fit into an A2 size envelope with “Fill your heart with joy” stamped on the back flap in coordinating ink.

RAINBOW connection pop-up birthday card

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s June 2025 release of ten new dies and five new clear stamps. For this rainbow connection slimline birthday card, I used several of the new sets including Arch Pop-Up, Leaping Animals and Rainbow Add-Ons die sets and Rainbow Greetings stamp set.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase:  An 8×8.75-inch rectangle of white cardstock was scored and folded into a side-fold 4×8.75 size slimline card.  Thin decorative papers were used to cover the cardbase. The inside panels were cut using the largest die from the Long Rectangles – Crosshatch die set. (See video above for details on how they were cut and attached.)

Arch Pop-Up: Β Cut out the two large arch dies in the Arch Pop-Up from solid 65-80lb. cardstock. Assemble as shown in the video above, adding the rainbow strips which were cut using double-sided adhesive tape. Attach the pop-up rainbow arch as shown in the video.

Frogs:Β  Cut four green, leaping frogs from the Leaping Animals die sets. Cut three green, sitting frogs from the Bayou Animals die set. With a white gel pen and frog dies as stencils, add spots and mouths to frogs. Using the eyes die from either animal set, cut four sets of eyes from white and stencil the black pupil of the eye and add a white gel pen dot onto them.

Sentiments: Β All the sentiments were stamped using the Rainbow Greetings stamp set with in black ink. β€œSprinkling a little Rainbow magic your way” and β€œHappy Birthday” were cut out using the smallest fancy label die in the Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch die set. Use the largest cloud die in the Rainbow Add-Ons set to cut out β€œHello there.”

Envelope:  The card fits into #10 business (4.25x 9-inches) size envelope stamped with β€œWishing you sunshine and rainbows” the back flap.

Here is a great reel on singing the Rainbow Connection song with Kermit – https://www.facebook.com/reel/531484342305953

It’s A Party – Celebrate Your Birthday!

When needing a large number of birthday cards, making multiple inlay die-cut backgrounds is the way to go.

Watch the video below to see how I made these cards.

Card Front: The card front uses Concord & 9th’s Party Hats inlay die along with the slice of cake from Karen Burniston’s Big Birthday Charms.

Sentiments: Β The sentiments were stamped in black ink using the Craft Roulette’s Funn Sentiments #01 stamp set and Karen Burniston’s Celebrate, Happy Birthday and Shadow dies along with her Katherine Label Pop-Up die set.

Envelope: Β The card fits into an A3 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope stamped with a sentiment or a hand-drawn heart.

A Classy Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #169 whose parameters included: see-thru card, rustic garden colors, fashion element and a hexagon.

I made this card using all Concord & 9th dies and stamps. (See other shop cards.)

Cardbase: For this A2 (4.25×5.5-inches) card start with a piece of white cardstock 8.5×5.5-inches and scored and folded in half at 4.25-inches.  Cover the back of the card base with white brick paper.

Shop Front: Watch an assembly video to get the basics on the assembly. Cut the shop front from white brick paper. (My paper was double-sided with red and white bricks on the back side.) Fold on score lines as directed in video. Decorate and add window acetate before attaching to cardbase. I used white and blue cardstock to cut the side posts and just blue for the panel below the windows. I cut the planters from white cardstock and brushed gray ink over them to add shape to them. The greenery is peppered with tiny red flowers made with a red gel pen. The planters are adhered and popped up on the shop front with thin foam squares.

Shop Front Door: I decided to make the door window see-thru too, so I played with positioning the door and its windowpane die on the shop front. I only cut the panes into the front. Cut the door with pane die taped together with the door die and the decorative panel from blue cardstock. Ink edges of the decorative panel before gluing to bottom of door. (I used a white gel pen to freehand the lines on the panel.) I stamped the open sign (Fashion Shoppe Stamp set) and die-cut the sign base from white cardstock coloring string with a yellow marker. Die cut the door handle and plate from silver foil card and adhere to door side.

Shop Front Window: Cut a piece of acetate 4×5.25-inches. Use double-sided tape around all the window and door openings on the back side of the shop front.

Shop Assembly: Using double side tape, adhere bottom tab on shop front to bottom edge of front panel on cardbase. Cut a piece of decorative paper (I used a hexagon paper) 4.125×5.5-inches and adhere over the shop front tab and line-up with card fold. (I cut an additional hexagon strip to cover the top tab.) Decorate the inside of the shop before adhere top tab of the shop front . (I didn’t remember to decorate first and had to use tweezers to place all my shop pieces inside the shop.)

Watch fashion shop dies assembly video before constructing your outfits and merchandise table. (I used the mirror die to cut backdrops for my dress frames.)

Using double-sided tape on the front side of the shop front upper tab, adhere to card base as shown in the assembly video.

Awning: Die cut the shop awning from striped paper and fold along score lines. Glue the die-cut β€œBoutique” to middle of awning. I adhered the backside of the awning top tab with thin foam tape to the top of the card base.

Sentiments: The sentiment inside of β€œYou’re classy from head to toe,” is from the Fashion Shoppe Stamp Set and stamped in a turquoise blue ink on a 4×5.25-inch piece of white cardstock. The sentiment piece was matted with a 4.25×5.5-inch piece of blue printed cardstock (backside of hexagon print.)

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 envelope. To give a hint as to what’s inside, a pair of shoes and a hat were glued to the back envelope flap.

Shop Cards – Coffee and Books

Miniature houses and shops fascinate me. When I saw that Concord & 9TH had come out with a Pop-Up Shoppe Die set and add-on sets for a bakery and a bookstore, I knew I had to try them.

First try – Bookstore
Second try – Coffee/Bake Shop

Here are my first and second cards that I made from these die sets. The first one, a bookstore, was done without watching the assembly video and hence I attached the pop-up store front as an accordion fold rather than the β€œU” pop-up fold as the video shows. The second one, a coffee/bake shop, uses the β€œU” fold. (Bake shoppe video, Book shoppe video)

For the coffee/bake shop I cut a 4.25×5.5-inches piece of banana cream cardstock folded in half for a top fold A2 size card base. using double-sided tape I adhered the decorative papers on all but the front inside of the card.

I found that assembling the shop front from the acetate windows, door and, flower box and eaves dental molding first, made it easier to plan how to lay out the inside scene. On the coffee/bake shop I used the largest door die to do a partial die-cut of three sides on the shop front, so that the door could be opened. (I’ve also thought for my next card to use both door dies to cut in windows to the door.)

The acetate windows can be one large piece if you don’t make the door open or two or three pieces if you do cut the door to open. (I reinforced the narrow strip by the door with a piece of acetate.) You need the acetate to glue the window frames onto as well as tables and lights bumped out with foam squares.

The inside decor for the coffee/bake shop uses the bake shoppe dies as well as the counter made from the bookstore’s cabinet with the shelves cut off. The stamped coffee signs come from a coffee shop stamp set from My Favorite Things. The β€œOPEN” sign on the door is from a Lawn Fawn stamp set. “Bakery” is part of the Concord & 9TH stamp set.

All of the coffee and bakery elements were curved using fingers or flower shaping ball tools. The breads and baskets were inked with Distress inks. Printed watercolored papers were used for other elements like cups and flowers. Foam squares are used to adhere most of the elements to the card back.

Placement of items to be seen through the upper windows and open door may make the inside layout seem off-balance.

The inside of the card needs layers of matted sentiment and a decorative paper on the card back to balance out the weight of the card front.  I think the top fold card works best for the card design, but the side fold card is good too.

As is my way, I decorated the back flaps of both A2 envelopes with stamps from Hero Arts (bookstore) and Concord & 9TH (coffee/bake shop) to hint as to what is inside the envelope.
