Monster Purse Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #300 whose parameters were: a purse card, 1990s colors, outdoor critters element and textile. I used Karen Burniston dies to create this card.

Watch the process video below to learn how this card was made.

Cardbase: I folded a 5×7.7-inch rectangle of white cardstock in half and placed the second largest die from the Ovals – Crosshatch die set with one edge overhanging the fold to make a folded oval cardbase. Add ribbon handles as shown in the video above. Cut two more ovals using the same die from pattern paper, trim off the side next to the fold as shown in the video.

Monster: Cut two 4×5-inch rectangles of neon green fake fun fur to cover the front and back purse panels. Cut the eyes, mouth and horns using the Monster Playful Add-Ons set. Use the stencil feature of the horn and eyes dies to add strips and highlights.

Sentiments:Happy Birthday” is a die from Karen Burniston.

Envelope: This purse card fits into an A2 (4 1/4×5 1/2-inches) size envelope.

Bottom Fold Purse Pop-Up Birthday Card

It’s the Karen Burniston design team challenge for August 2025 using the theme of bottom fold pop-up card. I chose to make a purse card using the Ovals – Crosshatch, Happy Birthday words & shadow, Dolled Up Charms, Bam Box Pop-Up and Display Helpers die sets as well as the Birthday Magic stamp set.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase & Handles: Start with a 8.5×5.5-inch piece of patterned cardstock and fold in half to form a side-fold A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) card. Place the largest Oval-Crosshatch die on the folded card with a tiny bit of the long edge of the oval die hanging off the folded edge. Die cut to have a shaped oval card base. Use the Display Helpers large paperclip die to cut the slots to thread the ribbon handles through as shown in the video above. Weave in the ribbon handles and clasp strip before gluing down the inside decorative ovals. (These ovals are the second largest dies in the Oval-Crosshatch set and are used to cover the ribbon raw edges and the clasp edge.)

Bam Box Pop-Up & Clasp: Watch the assembly video for the Bam Box Pop-Up. Cut out one of the Bam Box strip mechanism. Cut five of the decorative rectangles from paper matching the cardbase paper. Make Bam Box as show in the assembly video at the bottom of the linked page. Glue three of the decorative panels on to the Bam Box as shown in the video above. Glue the two remaining rectangles back to back and fold slightly off center to form the clasp. Glue clasp and Bam Box in as directed in the video above. Adhere two magnets using double-sided tape as shown in the video above. Stamp β€œLift” on the front of the clasp using the Display Helpers stamp set.

Lipstick:  Using the Dolled Up Charms die set to cut out the four pieces of the lipstick tube from gold and red cardstock. Follow the directions in the video above and glue to the white oval cut with the third largest crosshatch die in the Oval-Crosshatch set.

Sentiments:  All the stamped sentiments come from the Birthday Magic stamp set and are stamped in black ink. The die-cut β€œHappy Birthday” uses the word die and its matching shadow die to make the pop-up Bam Box greeting.

Envelope:  The card fits into an A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope stamped with β€œYou bring the Sparkle” on the back flap in black ink.

Matchbook Purse Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #271 whose parameters included a matchbook card, park colors, key(s) element, and curved and straight.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: Β Start with a 6×11-inch piece of patterned cardstock and score and fold at 3 1/4, 3 3/4 and 8 1/4-inches. Thread cardstock through the Karen Burniston Long Flap and Closure smaller flap die and center before cutting curved edge of the purse flap. Use white maker to outline curved edge.

Ribbon Handle:  Cut an 18-20-inch piece of 3/8 to 1/2-inch wide ribbon.  Punch two holes through the folded flap and thread ribbon through the holes. Leaving enough ribbon for a purse strap, tie ribbon at holes  before tying bow.

Keys and Clasp: Die cut a total of four keys using the key die in the Karen Burniston Katherine Label Pop-Up die set. Cut two from silver foil cardstock and two more keys from the white backside of the silver foil cardstock. Glue keys together to form two keys that are silver on both sides. Add a jump ring to each key and then add each key to the third jump ring before attaching it to the ribbon. Glue large sequin to center of flap as a decorative clasp.

Sentiments:  All the sentiments used on the card come from the Craft Roulette Funn Sentiments #01 stamp set and stamped in blue ink. stamped in black ink.

Envelope:  The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inches) size envelope that has a strip of the decorative cardstock glued to the back envelope flap.
