Thanksgiving Pop-Up Room Scene Card

It’s time for the November 2024 Karen Burniston Design Team Challenge of Autumn or Christmas Cheer celebrating the season.

I’ve chosen to celebrate Autumn and Thanksgiving harvest foods with another 6×6-inch pop-up kitchen scene card featuring the new Sweet Treats clear stamp set along with the previously released Oven Pop-Up, Oven Extras, Baking Borders, Explosion Pop-Up and Bitty Ball and Mini Ball Double-Ups die sets.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Here is a link to my Trimming the ChristmasΒ Tree room scene card similar to this kitchen card.

Cardbase: From 100 lb. cardstock cut two 6 x 6 1/2-inch rectangles, one 6 x12-inch rectangle, and one 6 x 5-inch rectangle. Watch video to see the order of assembly of pieces and when to cover pieces with decorative paper.

Windows: Using the Bitty Ball Double-Ups large die, cut windows into the two 6 x 6 1/2-inch rectangles of the card base. Use the Mini Ball Double-Ups to cut the rear window in the 4 1/2-inch tall wall panel. The door uses the RectanglesCrosshatch and the Long RectanglesCrosshatch as well as the leftover rectangles from the oven rack and black circle from the oven burner in the Oven Pop-Up set.

Oven: Cut two of the Oven Pop-Up base and cut one in half and assemble the base pieces as shown in the tutorial video above. Complete as shown in Karen Burniston’s assembly video. (Watch assembly video on the dies’ linked page.)

Cabinets: Cut eight of the cabinet doors from the Oven Extras set. (Watch assembly video on the dies’ linked page.) Add to the scene as shown in the tutorial video above. The double cabinet counter tops are cut using the second smallest rectangle in the Short Rectangles-Crosshatch. (While the tutorial video shows using the Explosion Pop-Up for the base of the island cabinets, you could just use a cut down oven base for this island.)

Decorations: The pies come from the Baking Borders set while the oven mitts are from the Oven Pop-Up set. The turkey in the roasting pan in the oven as well as the orange pot on the stove are from the Oven Extras set as is the pop-up cubes that animate them as the card opens. The pumpkins and leaves on the outside panels are from the Autumn Elements set.

Sentiments: The card uses two sentiments from an American Crafts journaling card paper sheet as well as the Sweet Treats stamped sentiments. Die-cut “Happy Thanksgiving” and “Welcome Autumn” come from Word Set 7- Autumn.

Envelope:  The card is thick, so a special padded envelope is needed to mail it.

Trimming the Christmas Tree

Welcome to our Karen Burniston Products – KB Riley LLC October 2024 Release Blog Hop. (See GIVEAWAY details at the end of this post for blog hop list.) The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 10 new dies and 5 new stamp sets. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!

This is a special card that creates a 6×6-inch miniature scene of trimming the Christmas tree. (I think the people must have stepped out to get some hot cocoa.) There are dangling ornaments (or baubles) along with a colorful paper chain and a strand of lights. These are all created with dies from the new release – Christmas Tree Add-Ons, Charm Rings, Snow Charms and Penguin and Reindeer Snowman Add-Ons. The stamped sentiment is from the new Season of Cheer stamp set.

(While it uses multiple die sets, you could make a smaller card with the tree and furniture or the tree next to the fireplace.)

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: From 100 lb. cardstock cut two 6 x 6 1/2-inch rectangles, one 6 x12-inch rectangle, and one 6 x 5 1/2-inch rectangle. Watch video to see the order of assembly of pieces and when to cover pieces with decorative paper.

Windows: Using the Bitty Ball Double-Ups large die, cut windows into the two 6 x 6 1/2-inch rectangles of the card base. Wreaths from Fireplace Extras 2 and bows from Fireplace Extras 1 decorate the windows while a sled from the Snow Charms decorates the wall.

Fireplace: The fireplace is made and decorated using the Fireplace Pop-Up, Fireplace Extras 1 and Fireplace Extras 2 die sets. (Watch assembly videos on the dies’ linked pages.)

Sofa and Table: The sofa and table are made using the Family Room Pop-Up die set and modifying the chair into a table by not adding the chair seat and back piece. The tabletop is the waste piece from the sofa section of the base. For the plate of gingerbread men, cut the plate using the smallest circle die in the Crosshatch Circles die set. There are three different die sets that have gingerbread men of about the same size. Any set will work – Gingerbread Tiny House Add-Ons, Winter Charms or Christmas Borders 1. (Watch assembly videos on the dies’ linked pages.)

Tree: The Christmas tree is made using the Christmas Tree Pop-Up with the Christmas Tree Add-Ons and Charm Rings. (The colorful paper chain is made up of all three sizes of paper jump rings in the Charm Rings die set.) For the string of colored lights that is draped across the floor comes from the Penguin and Reindeer Snowman Add-Ons set.

Sentiments: The card uses many sentiments from the Graphic 45 paper collection, but the main inside sentiment comes as the card is opened to reveal the fireplace with β€œHave a tree trimming, carol singing, laughter ringing Christmasβ€œ stamped on an oval rug using the Season of Cheer stamp set.

Envelope:  The card is thick, so a special padded envelope is needed to mail it.

Cherry Blossoms in the Park

It’s time for the May 2024 Karen Burniston Design Team Challenge with the theme of From the Vault. I used for inspiration a 2021 Thanksgiving card and made it into a spring card.

My new card uses a similar cardbase to the original, but I skipped the foundation and the fourth fold.

Cardbase: Cut from medium-weight cardstock three rectangles 6 1/4 x6-inches and one 6-inch square.  Cut five 6-inch squares of decorative green paper Using double-sided tape on the back of four of the decorative panels adhere to both sides of two of the 6 1/4 x6-inches rectangles. Cut out windows from the center of these two covered panels using the largest Square Crosshatch die. Attach window panels to opposite sides of the 6-inch square. Adhere last 6 1/4 x6-inches rectangle to bottom of the 6-inch square. Cover the hinge flaps with a decorative paper. (This will be the back of the folded close card. On my card it is pink.) Cover the 6-inch square inside with green decorative paper and the bottom square with a grass like paper. On the back side of grass covered square cover with a stone wall patterned paper.

Trees: Use the tree and leaf dies in the Tree Pop-Up set to cut five of each die. Glue leaves to trees. Die-cut 16 times the flower die in the same set from pink. Using a tiny ball flower shaping tool, push each flower into stiff foam to shape petals. Top of trees will be glued to each side of window frame panels and tree trunk will be sandwiched in between the fence pieces. (You will use two trees per window panel.) Wait to glue onto cardbase until one layer of fence is adhered to cardbase.

Fence: From the Iron Fence Pop-Up set, cut eight of the fence die in black. Trim off the end post on one piece and then trim off just before the fifth pence post a section of fence from a second piece to made a fence that is wide enough to span the 6-inch cardbase panels. Made five of theses fence sections. Glue a section to the bottom edge of one of the window panels. Attach a tree. Glue a fence to other side of window panel matching all the scrollwork up. Adhere remaining tree and fence to 6-inch square panel.

Tulips & Tree Flowers: Add six dots of glue to tree leaves on one panel and place tiny pink flowers in glue using the pointed tip of QuickStik to firmly attached to leaves. Continue with each of the five trees until flowers are all attached.

Cut from green cardstock 25 of the tulip base die in the Garden Charms set. Trim off charm loop from flower bases. From yellow cardstock cut 50 tulip flower tops. Glue a yellow top to front and back of all the flower bases. To create the flaming streaks of color, use a red brush marker starting at the bottom of the yellow tulip and drawing up to the points following the curves of the tulip shape.

Sentiments: Both the shadow die and word die were used for the β€œHappy Birthday.” The inside sentiment of β€œHappy Spring” is a words-only die.

Envelope: The card will fit in a catalog envelope of 6×9-inches.

Go Bears Father’s Day Card

It’s time for another Karen Burniston Design Team Challenge. This month we were asked to use the Fireplace Pop-up die set to celebrate a specific holiday.

I have Father’s Day, which in the USA is in June which is not necessarily when American football is played, but once a fan of a sports team, always a fan of a team. GO Bears!

Card Base: The card base is an A7 size. I took a medium weight piece cardstock cut to 10 x 7 inches and folded in half. The base was what I glued decorative papers to as well as attaching the fireplace pop-up mechanism and floor flap.

Bears and Accessories: The bears, their football helmets and footballs, beer mug, and pizza are all Karen Burniston dies – colored to match the Chicago bear’s uniforms. Beer mug is made from Coffee Charms (mug) and Happy Hour Charms (foam) and a pizza (circle from a snowman set). Pizza box is my own creation. (You could change up the sport by using any of the new Sports Charms.)

TV:  The TV is the fireplace mechanism with a print of bears game covering the top portion while the bottom portion acts a table.

Flip Floor: I have made another flip floor for a Halloween card using the furniture from the family room die set. What I learned from my previous card is to use strong tape. I used duct tape on this card and full pieces of suede paper (for carpet) and wood-grain to make the flap have a sturdy hinge. The flap is cut to stop just before the TV table and locks under the right end table.

Lamps:  To make the lamps feel in proportion to the size of the room, I placed them on end table cubes which also act as the locking device for the flip floor. The lamps are part of the Karen Burniston Family Room die set. I placed a thin foam square under the lamp shades to made them curve round.

Furniture: I turned the chair of the Family Room dies set into a table by gluing a rectangle over the arm rests instead of adding the seat back. The back of the sofa is just the seat portion left flat. I cut pieces to cover the black base of the sofa.

Sentiments: Using contrasting colors to cut background plaques for the front sentiment of β€œGO Wild!” makes them standout on the busy patterned paper. The Father’s Day sentiment comes with its own shadow background in the die set.

CRX Sheet: Because of the flip floor and locking mechanism being atypical for what most card recipients expect, I have included a sheet with directions for opening and locking the card open. (You can download for free.)
