Jungle Waterfall Easel Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #323 whose parameters were: A7 card, pretty colors, photo booth element and geometric shapes for random. I used Spellbinders Weekender 2026 dies and stamps for an A7 easel (5×7-inch) card with a photo strip bookmark with photos of how to open and display the card.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: I cut three rectangles to make the cardbase: Dark Blue – 5×7-inches, Light Blue – 4.25×5.5-inches and 4×6-inches. Score and fold the 4×6 rectangle at .5-inches and 3-inches as shown in the video above.

Waterfall: Using the Rainforest Falls die set and instruction PDF, cut two sets of all the rock pieces using four to five shades of gray cardstock. Make a total of three of each of the two smallest rocks. (I used gray markers to get my extra shades of gray to make the rocks look different from each other.) Make two sets of the water splashes and pooling water using several shades of blue cardstock. Make one of the waterfall. (I added more contrast to my water features with a blue marker. I also brushed on Nuvo Glitter Gloss shimmer over all the water and areas on the rocks that might be splashed.)

Sky: Using the cloud edging dies in the Rainforest Falls die set, tape together the two dies to make a continuous cut on 5×1.5-inch strips of red, orange and yellow cardstock. Cut one semi-circle from the brightest yellow. Assemble card as shown in the video above. (I inked the top edge of my 4.25×5.5-inch rectangle panel to have a purplish hue to peak though behind the clouds.)

Decorations: Decorate the rocks with vines, foliage and flowers cut from the Jungle Blooms and Tiki Toucan die sets.I cut one of each foliage and vine dies in each set – once from light green and once from dark green. (I cut four each of the pink flowers with their yellow centers from the Jungle Blooms set.) In addition, I used Memory Box’s Tiny Frogs and Tonic Studio’s Tropical Rain Forest Silhouette‘s tiny butterfly die as embellishments. (There are three tiny frogs on the card and four tiny butterflies. Can you find them all?) Cut one brown branch from the Tiki Toucan die set to go across the stream.

Sentiments: The stamped sentiments come from the Go Wild stamp & die set and were stamped in a teal blue ink.

Photo Strip Bookmark: Once the card was finished I photographed it in the closed and open positions with a side view to demonstrate the easel. Next, I printed the photos as 1-inch wide and generated the title “How to open card for display.” Using Karen Burniston’s Movie Night Charms, I cut from black shimmer cardstock, the filmstrip. Next, I trimmed the photos and title to fit the film strip and glued them into the frames. I backed the entire strip with thin white computer paper. (For more Card Recipient eXperience slips (CRX) check out these posts on my blog.)

Envelope: The card fits into an A7 (5×7-inch) envelope with the sentiment from the Go Wild stamp set that says “Life’s a jungle.”

Pop-Up Chalkboard Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #306 whose parameters were: A7 card, summer dessert colors, chalkboard element and bottom border. I used a variety of dies and stamps from Concord & 9th, Fun Stampers Journey, Hero Arts and Karen Burniston to make this pop-up birthday card.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase: (Watch the video above for assembly instructions.) Cut from 100 lb. cardstock one 5×7-inch rectangle and one 5×7.5-inch rectangle scored at 7-inches. Using Karen Burniston’s Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch die set, cut four of the largest crosshatch panel from decorative paper. Cut the pop-up tabs from Karen Burniston’s Christmas Trees Pop Stand die set into the inside papers as directed in the video, before gluing them into the card.

Pop-Up Chalkboard: (Watch the video above for assembly instructions.) Cut two sign board easels from brown heavy weight cardstock and two black panels using the dies in the January 2019 My Hero Arts kit. Stamp with clear ink and heat emboss the sentiment and cake image with white detail embossing powder before assembling the easel.

Floral Decorations: (Watch the video above.) My colored cardstock was made by swiping ink pads across white and cream scraps of cardstock. Using Karen Burniston’s Fun Flowers die set, cut out and assemble four sets of flowers in different colors. Cut nine stems of leaves.Cut and decorate two butterflies.

Sentiments: On the card front the newspaper Celebration Times is from the Concord & 9th Happy Headlines stamp set.I printed a generic head shot as a placeholder for the photo of the individual that the card will go to. Inside, the “Happy Birthday is from the Karen Burniston Birthday/Belated stamp set and the “Eat Cake First” is from Fun Stampers Journey’s Birthday Bash set. The white label for a personal message was cut using Karen Burniston’s Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch die set.

Envelope: The card fits into an A7 (5×7-inch) envelope decorated with a stamped sentiment on the back flap from Concord & 9th Happy Headlines stamp set.

Choo-Choo Train Birthday Card

This card was made for CRAFT ROULETTE #276 whose parameters included an easel card, rainbow colors, western element, and black and white image. I chose to make a shaped, slimline easel card using dies by Anna Griffin and Sue Wilson.

Watch the process video to see how I made this card.

Cardbase:  The cardbase is cut from 110 lb. white cardstock using Anna Griffin’s Antique Train Slimline Easel dies to cut out the two cardbase pieces. Rainbow striped paper was added to the card base and the excess was fussy cut off. (You could die cut the piece again if you don’t like to fussy cut.)

Train:  The detailed train image is cut in black and glued to the shaped outline of the train before it is attached to the card base.

Sentiment: Β Cut three sets of Sue Wilson’s β€œHappy Birthday” from the scraps of white cardstock used for the cardbase. Glue the layers together. Let dry under a paperweight to have the dry flat.Β  Adhere to cardbaseΒ to be used as the easel stop.

Envelope:  The card fits into #10 business envelope (4.125x 9.5-inches) which was stamped with β€œHBD” on its back in red ink using the Craft Roulette Funn Sentiments #01 stamp set.

Snowflake Easel Birthday Card

Karen Burniston’s October 2024 release of new dies and sentiment stamps are now available.

Today’s card is an A7 size top-fold easel card that uses the new Postage Pop-Up, Charm Rings, Snow Charms die sets and Winter Hugs stamp set.

Watch the process video to see how this card was made.

Cardbase: Β Cut a white 7 1/2 x 5-inch rectangle; score and fold at 7-inches to form a tab. Cut a white 7 x 5-inch rectangle and glue to tab. On panel that does not have the tab glued to it, score at the center (3 1/2-inches) and fold to make an easel. Three decorative panels 3 4/3 x4 3/4-inches will be used to cover the outside of the card.

Postage Stamp Diamond Frames: Β Using the large postage stamp frame and smaller squares and rectangle dies, cut eight frames. Separate the frames so that you have eight small square frames and two large square frames. (Save the other frames and cut-out shapes for other projects.) Glue to frames together to form four small squares and one large square. Watch video to see how window apertures are cut into the easel and how charms are hung.

Decorations: The smaller snowflake charms are from the Winter Charms set while the larger snowflake charm and individual snowflake are from the Snow Charms set. (Save the small circles that pop-out of the snowflakes to decorate the postage frames at the corners.) Watch the tutorial to see how the individual snowflake was made into a charm using the larger snowflake. Use two of the medium size Charm Rings to hang each snowflake.

Sentiments: Β All the sentiments come from the Winter Hugs stamp set and were fussy cut out of the same cardstock as the cardbase. The back of the card uses “I made this cool card” stamp with the maker’s mark below and a pair of mittens from the Snow Charms set.

Envelope: Β The card fits into an A7 (5 x 7-inches) size envelope. The back flap was decorated with a large snowflake from the Snow Charms set.

Dear Santa I Can Explain…

With Santa shimmering down the chimney with his legs swinging left and right, this card became my submission for Craft Roulette episode #191 whose parameters were a drop-down card, supper table colors, seasons element, and shiny.

I had started this card earlier in the week after discovering Spellbinders Large-Die-Of-the-Month set for October 2021, but hadn’t finished the easel stop/sentiment. It is part of my Fireplace series.

Cardbase: Cut one 5×7-inch rectangle from heavy black cardstock. Cut another piece from black using the template pictured below. Train the folds of the larger piece. This will be the bottom base with easel arm. Glue the tab on the easel arm to the back of the 5×7 piece making sure when the card is folded shut that the top 5×7’s edges are aligned with the bottom piece. Cover the card front with decorative paper as well as the bottom panel. I added decorative borders for quarter floor molding and picture rail near the ceiling top.

Fireplace and Santa: Watch the assembly video. I used two layers of cardstock for the fireplace and four layers for the candlesticks. The foam dot I used was thick, so I used two layers of foam tape to keep the fireplace higher than Santa. Glitter gloss was brushed over all of Santa as well as the fur on the stockings’ tops. The gold foil in the fireplace decorative panels is from an envelope liner.

Decorations: The set comes with dies for the greenery, tiny flowers and berries as well as the bow. I used a red glitter pen for the candle flames and a yellow marker for the flower centers.

Sentiments: The fireplace set comes with four messages. I choose β€œDear Santa” to die-cut into the red hearth piece which is backed with a solid white hearth piece. Glitter gloss was applied to the red hearth. To create the easel stopper, cut an oval rug and pop it up on foam dots. Glue die-cut β€œHappy Holidays” onto oval. Because of my dark background paper, I added a smaller white oval for a personal message.

Envelope: I decorated the back flap of the envelope and the card back with decorative paper scraps.

Haunted House Easel Card

I have a crafty friend who loves Halloween. This card was made for her using Poppy Stamps Neighborhood Home Pop Up Easel set along with their Whittle Monsters, Whittle Creatures and Boo Poe Script dies.

It took just a morning to make. The die cutting of the Whittle creatures and monsters took the most time, but they went together easily and used up leftover scraps. For the house I had to make some decisions on open or pained windows. I decided some of the creatures should be outside rather than behind windows.

The easel stop is four layers of green and orange cardstock die-cut using the Boo Poe Script die.

I included a CRX sheet to show how to open the card. (You can download the CRX sheet for free.)

The back of the envelope is stamped with Tim Holtz Halloween pumpkin stamps.
