Butterflies A Flutter Birthday Card

This birthday card was made for a crafty friend who likes nature and the Art Nouvo style.

Cardbase:  I cut from a 12×12 sheet of single-sided patterned cardstock, a 7 x10-inch piece so that the design would be my decorative card front. The rectangle was folded in half to form a top-fold A7 (5×7-inch) size card. The remaining patterned cardstock was cut into rectangles to cover the inside of the card.

Butterfly Pop-Up Collage:  Using the Karen Burniston Heart Collage Pop-Up die, cut of the mechanism from the scraps of the cardbase cardstock. (Follow the assembly video directions for installation of the mechanisms. Video is at the bottom of the linked die page.) Cut butterflies from scrapes of Graphic 45 decorative cardstock and glue onto mechanisms avoiding catch points as shown in the assembly video.

Sentiments:  Karen Burniston’s Happy Birthday die was cut in white and glued to the front of the card. The Funn sentiment from Craft Roulette was stamped in black ink onto a decorative scalloped label cut and embossed using an Emily Moore Designs die. Glitter gloss was used on all the sentiments for some sparkle.

Envelope:  The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inches) size envelope.

Pop-Up Birthday Card for A Bookworm

It’s the Karen Burniston design team challenge for February 2025 using the theme of Bouquets. We were asked to make a card with a bouquet using some of the new Bouquet Bits and Flower Pot Add-ons. For this challenge I chose to make a birthday card for someone who enjoys reading. (You can see other bouquet pop-ups by clicking here.)

Cardbase: The card base is made from a lightweight white cardstock measuring 5.5×8.5-inches and folded in half to for a side fold A2 (5.5×4.25-inch) card. I covered all four panels with library themed papers from Stamperia.

Pop-Up: For the brown pot of fern-like seedlings is made with the Flower Pot Pop-Up die set. (Follow the assembly video at the bottom of the linked page.)

Decorations: Tea and books often go together and the Tea and Coffee Borders set has both teapots and teacups. The green picks that the sentiment and books are attached to come from the Bouquet Bits die set. The green foliage pieces come from the Flower Pot Add-ons set. The books and bookworm are all from the Bookworm set.

Sentiments: The square stamped sentiments use the Photo Memories stamp set and the square dies to cut them out from the Photo Fan Pop-Up.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) envelope. The same sentiment from the card front is stamped on the envelope back flap.

Cruising On Your Birthday!

This card was made for Craft Roulette #252 whose parameters included a card for a teenager, morning colors, fairy (fairies), and bow(s). I choose to interpret fairy as fairy lights and bow as a bow of a ship.

Cardbase: My double sided paper from Carta Bella was cut into a 6.5×10-inch rectangle and folded in-half. The wave decorations were cut using Karen Burniston’s Ocean Edges die set.

Cruise Ship Pop-Up: The cruise ship is made with two die sets by Karen Burniston – Boat Pop-Up and Cruise Ship Add-ons. (You can watch assembly videos for both sets by clicking on their links and going to the bottom of the linked pages.)

Pear Blossom Press Twinkle Lights were used to light-up the ship and the ship’s wheel (from Karen Burniston’s Cruise Charms die set with Pear Blossom Press’ “push” stamp) covers the battery and indicates where to press to turn on the lights.

Sentiments:  The “Wishing you…” sentiment is from Karen Burniston’s Cruise Greetings stamp set and the “HBD!” is from Craft Roulette’s Funn Friends #02 stamp set. The sentiments are stamped in black ink on labels cut from Karen Burniston’s Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch and Labels – Crosshatch die sets. You can download the paperclip slip.

Envelope:  The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inches) size envelope with “HBD!” stamped all over the back flap and sealed with a sticker from the paper collection.

A Pop-Up Get Well Card – Fishing Themed

IT’S TIME for the Karen Burniston Products – KB Riley LLC January 2025 Release Blog Hop. (See GIVEAWAY details at the end of this post for blog hop list.) The Design Team have come together with Karen today for a fun blog hop to celebrate the release of 8 new dies and 4 new stamp sets. Sneak peeks of the new release started last week, and the dies are available to order NOW!

Cardbase: I started with a 7×10-inch piece of patterned paper folded in half to form an A7 side-fold card. The inside was covered with two rectangles of patterned paper cut using the second largest of the Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch dies. Color center fold gap with marker close in color to patterned paper. Add decorative stripes for side borders. Decorate the outside with journaling cards and stickers from decorative paper collection.

Basket Pop-Up: Cut the Flower Pot Pop-Up main pot piece twice from a dark brown cardstock. Cut two sets of strips with smiley faces from the same brown cardstock. (Watch Karen Burniston’s assembly video located at the bottom of the linked Flower Pot Pop-Up page.) Cut four sets of the striped side and top pieces from the Popcorn die set from a light brown paper. Save all five waste strips from each of the sides to weave through the decorative side pieces to make the basket. Cut one square base piece with tabs from the Flower Pot Add-Ons set in dark brown cardstock.

Decorations:  From the Fishing Boat Add-Ons die set, cut all three of the fish dies three times from a silver gray cardstock. Cut two of the heart picks from the Bouquet Bits die set in green and save the heart waste pieces to use as greenery in the front corner of the basket. (I ended up only using the heart pick in this card.) Cut one pail and handle from silver mirror cardstock. (Color handle with black alcohol marker.) Cut three cattails from the Bayou Animals die set from green and color cattails brown on both sides. (In the video I call these bulrushes from the gator and frog set.) Cut five green leafy pieces from the Flower Pot Add-Ons set. From the Fishing Boat Add-Ons die set, cut the fishing rod twice. (If using patterned paper, flip paper to backside to cut the mirror image of rod.) Cut one fishing line from silver cardstock.

Sentiments:  “Get Well Soon” is from the Bouquet Sayings stamp set and cut out using the die in the Bouquet Bits die set. The green heart pick that holds the card is also in the Bouquet Bits die set. “Every day is a good day when you’re fishing” is from the Fishing Phrases stamp set and cut out using the second smallest crosshatch die in the Squares – Crosshatch die set.

Envelope: The card fits into an A7 size envelope with one of the jumping fish die cuts. “Here fishy, fishy” is stamped in black ink using the Fishing Phrases stamp set.

This card was made for Craft Roulette #251 whose parameters included for a slimline card, lumberjack colors, hat(s) or cap(s), and lace or doily.

Cardbase:  Each card is made from a 2×6-inch piece of double-sided patterned paper, folded into a top-fold 3×2-inch card.  The box to hold them is made using Karen Burniston’s Candy Hearts Box die.

Sentiments:  The sentiments were all stamped in black ink using the Craft Roulette Funn Sentiments #01 set except for the “Hats off to you” which was handwritten.

Envelope:  The flatten box with three cards will fit into an A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game!

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s January 2025 release of eight new dies and four new clear stamps sets. For this baseball card I used several of the new die sets including: Paper People, Popcorn and Flower Pot Add-Ons along with the previously released Flower Pot Pop-Up, Tiny Accessories 3, Easter Charms, Space Charms and Rectangles – Crosshatch. The new release will be available on January 27, 2025.

Cardbase: I started with an 8 1/2 x 5 1/2-inch piece of patterned paper folded in half to form an A2 side-fold card. The inside was covered with two rectangles of striped paper cut using the largest of the Rectangles – Crosshatch dies.

Baseball Player: Using the Paper People die set Cut one body, one hair piece, one mustache, one t-shirt and one pants. From the Tiny Accessories 3 set cut one of the engineer’s cap. Watch the process video above to see how to style these pieces into a baseball player.

Cracker Jack Box Pop-Up:  Follow the assembly video directions (located at the bottom of the linked page) for the Flower Pot Pop-Up, but add the Popcorn decorator pieces to the pot before installing it in the card. (I made the caramel corn “Cracker Jacks” by coloring the popcorn pieces with alcohol markers and coating with Glossy Accents a clear gel. The peanuts are cut using the jelly bean charm from the Easter Charms set.) The box is attached to the card using the Flower Pot Add-On set’s square scalloped doily with tabs. The Cracker Jack prize packet is a computer generated piece of paper torn open to reveal a pink plastic alien toy charm cut using the Space Charms die set.

Sentiments:  All the sentiments are from the patterned papers and the “Cracker Jacks” was computer generated.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 size envelope.

Bon Voyage and Smooth Seas

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s January 2025 release of eight new dies and four new clear stamps sets. For this Bon Voyage card I used several of the new sets including: Ocean Edges and Cruise Ship Add-On along with the previously released Boat Pop-Up and Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch die sets and the new Cruise Greetings stamp set. Cardbase: Using a 8.5×5.5-inch rectangle of double-sided patterned cardstock, fold rectangle in half to form a 4.25-inch wide by 5.5-inch tall side fold card. Decorate the inside with wavy ripples using the Ocean Edges dies. (I choose to let the cardbase paper pattern be one shade of the ocean waves while the other waves are cut from decorative cardstock with white water ripples on them. If you make several layers of waves the card will be very thick and hard to close. If this happens use the special die in the Cruise Ship Add-On set to cut two slots on either side of the fold to slide a paper clip through to hold the card open.)

Cruise Ship: Follow the directions to assemble the basic Boat Pop-Up (Assembly video at the bottom of the die set’s linked page.) Watch the video above for how to assemble the Cruise Ship Add-Ons. (I had an issue the first time I glued in the ship to the card. So, there are also tips on how to fix bent U-support pieces and ship’s tabs in the video.)

Sentiments: The inside stamped sentiments are from the Cruise Greetings stamp set and the fancy labels are the smaller label die in the Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch set. Decorative paper journaling cards are the outside card sentiments.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope with an anchor and chain glued to the back flap. The anchor is from the Cruise Add-Ons die set.

A Reel-y Great Father’s Day Card

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s January 2025 release of eight new dies and four new clear stamps. For this Father’s Day card I used several of the new sets including: Paper People and Fishing Boat Add-Ons along with the previously released Boat Pop-Up dies and the new Fishing Phrases stamps. The new release will be available on January 27, 2025.

Cardbase: I started with an underwater pattern cardstock rectangle that was 5.5 x 8.5-inches and folded it in half to form a top-fold horizontal 4.25 x 5.55-inch slimline card. Next, I cut two of the largest die in the Rectangles – Crosshatch set from blue and white checkered paper and covered the inside panels. The outside panels used journaling cards from the coordinating paper collection.

Fisherman: Using the Paper People die set cut one figure from flesh colored paper. (It is best to use your thinnest cardstock and decorative papers as the figure will need to be covered on both front and back from the waist up.) Cut hair and clothes to suit your card recipient. The hat with a fishing lure attached comes from the Fishing Boat Add-Ons set.

Fish and Fishing Rod: The Fishing Boat Add-Ons set includes dies to cut three different fish as well as a pail with a handle and a fishing rod, fishing line and three hooks. (It also includes an outboard motor, motor mount, and a hat.) I cut all the fish twice for this card from a greenish gray cardstock and colored the fish with glitter brush makers. The rod I cut twice from a dark green cardstock and the line once from silver cardstock. the line is sandwiched between the two layers of the rod. Take two of the jumping fish and glue them back to back except at the mouth. Feed the fish onto the hook and glue shut. The pail I cut twice from silver cardstock and the handle just once. (The handle knob is colored with a black marker.) There is a slot at the top of the pail that you can slide the small fish through.

Boat Pop-Up:  Using the Boat Pop-Up die set, cut one of the boat’s hull or sides and one of the boat deck from matte silver cardstock (or use my trick of dulling the shine with dried layer of glue.) Cut two of the tabbed mechanism strips from a lightweight cardstock. (Assembly video for Boat Pop-Up set is at the bottom of the linked page.) Follow the directions to assemble boat except replace the rowboat seat with the fishing seat and use the pail of fish to cover front tab. Attach outboard motor using the slotted mount strip. No need for oar locks or oars.

Sentiments:  There are two sentiments on the card – “Every day is a good day when you’re fishing” and “Have A Reel-y Great Father’s Day.” Both were stamped using the Fishing Phrases clear stamp set with black ink onto white copier paper and die cutting with the smallest fancy label in the Rectangles and Labels- Crosshatch set.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 size envelope which was has the last of the die-cut jumping fish glued to the back flap.

Karen Burniston’s Boat Pop-Up can become many different types of boats and ships using her different add-on sets. In her January 2025 there are two new add-on sets – Fishing Boat Add-Ons and Cruise Ship Add-Ons. There is also a new Paper People so you can add people to your cards.
