A Dog Themed Tri-fold Birthday Card

This card was made for CRAFT ROULETTE #292 whose parameters included an encouragement card, sophisticated colors, house pet(s) element, and thread or twine. I used the Crafter’s Companion stamp & die set called Best Buddy and Graphic 45 paper to make this card.

Cardbase: I started with a 5 1/2×11-inch rectangle of heavyweight ivory cardstock. After trimming 1/4-inch from the short side (5 1/2 x10 7/8-inches) I scored and folded the panel at 3 5/8-inches and 7 1/4-inches. Front panel is 1/8-inch wider than the other two panels to help with the opening of card. Follow the directions in the video for decorating and cutting out the two window apertures in the card base.

Dogs: I colored the dogs using various shades of brown and black. For the twine parameter, I glued some green/blue twine as the dogs collars.

Sentiments: “Yappy Birthday” and “Woof You” are from the Best Buddy‘s stamps as is the speech bubble and paw prints.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (5x 7-inch) size envelope with a dog and “”Yappy Birthday” stamped on the back flap.

Pop-Up Alice In Wonderland Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #254 whose parameters included a book binding card, candy colors, rhymes with “ogg” element, and letters (ing).

Cardbase: Start with an 11×4.25-inch rectangle of white lightweight cardstock. Score and fold at 5-inches and at 5.5 -inches. Cover the four panels created by the folds with decorative papers from the Stamperia collection (inside panels) and solid red for outside panels. Glue the .5-inch strip together to form the book binding card. Cut a 1 to1.5-inch wide stripe of black cardstock and score at .5-inches down the strip. Cover the book binding strip of card front and wrap over to back of card.

Card Front Image: Stamp the Alice in Wonderland image from Creative Expressions on a piece of licorice red cardstock in black and glue to front of card, trimming off excess.

Pop-Up: Watch the assembly video at the bottom of the linked page for Karen Burniston’s Little Twist Panel Pop-Up. Cut pieces from Stamperia decorative paper.

Sentiments: “Happy Birthday” is stamped in black using the Craft Roulette sentiment stamps. A small white, fancy label die-cut from the Karen Burniston’s Rectangles and Labels set for a space for a personal message.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope. The Cheshire Cat was cut from some of the Stamperia decorative paper and glued to the envelope back flap.

Good Bye 2024-Hello 2025!

It’s the Karen Burniston design team challenge for December 2024 using the theme of “Happy New Year.” For this challenge I chose to make a top-fold A2 size card with pop-up fireworks and the sentiment “Happy New Year” on a wobble spring.

(Most of the instruction on how to make this card is in the video, but I’ve listed some measurements and sets used below.)

Cardbase: Take an 11×4.25-inch rectangle and fold in half to create an A2 size top-fold card. Cover all four panels with decorative paper.

Pop-Up Fireworks: (I’ve used the double Katherine Label Pop-Up mechanism in these other cards – World Card Making Day Card, Flying By Pop-up Birthday Card, Interactive Money Holder Halloween Cards and Do What Brings You Joy.)

Sentiments: “Good Bye 2024” was made using four different sentiment die sets –Good Luck, Happy Birthday, Happy Easter and Mini Alphabet and Numbers. (See video for the word surgery used to create Good Bye.) “Happy New Year” has separate dies to cut out each word and a shadow die. I used four different foil and glitter cardstocks.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size envelope. To decorate, cover the back flap with matching card papers and stamp with the “Made with Love” from the Special Delivery stamp set. (I wasn’t paying attention and stamped the sentiment with the “Love” upside-down on my envelope.)

Shabby Chic Birthday Card

Shabby Chic is the theme of this card made with Karen Burniston’s June 2024 release of new dies. For this card, I used two of the new sets – Happy Birthday Lorna Add-Ons and Tree Add-Ons.

Cardbase: Use the Fancy Label Accordion die set for this step. Using a die cut frame with the inside pivot panel cut-out, trace the inside the frame onto the outside of the card base where you want the accordion frame to be. Cut out the opening and trace the opening onto the inside panel and cut that opening out too. Cover the inside of your cardbase with decorative papers. Cut out the openings out of the decorative papers. Cut the opening wider that the pencil marks as the decorative frames will cover it. Cover outside with decorative papers and cut the opening from the decorative papers.

Accordion Frame: Die-cut two whole Fancy Label Accordion frames from a decorative print cardstock. Cut two more whole frames from decorative paper but cut out the pivot panels in them. (Save cut -out pivot panels for other projects.)

Tree-Add-On Panel: Watch the assembly video for the Hearts Add-Ons to see how to cut the pivot panels and how to adhere the tree panel to them. (I used the half pivot panels to decorate the back side of the pivot panels that stayed.)

To finish the inside tree panels, I cut using a label die taped inside the pivot panel die to get a frame cut from gold matte cardstock. I cut two of these frames and glued the to the outside edges of the tree panel.

I decorated the tree shaped pop-out spaces with tiny handmade flower bouquets popped -up on foam squares.

Sentiments: I die cut the sentiments from black cardstock using the Celebrate and Happy Birthday Lorna Add-Ons. Cut a small white label using the small, dotted label die in Fancy Label Accordion die set for a personal message space. (I use double-side tape on the back of the label but wait to attach it after I have written my message.)

Envelope: Fits into an A7 envelope.

Enchanted Forest Pop-up Card

It’s Sneak Peek Week for Karen Burniston’s June 2024 release of new dies.

For this card, I used one of the new sets – Tree Add-Ons along with a previously released die set – Fancy Label Accordion. This card is based on a card design that Karen Burniston had taught in a class with the Hearts Add-Ons die set. (Click on link to get a PDF of the instructions.)

Cardbase: Cut an 11x 6-inches rectangle of lightweight cardstock and fold in half to create a 5 1/2 x 6-inches card base with a side fold. Cover with decorative paper on the outside and inside of front panel before cutting with largest square die from the Squares – Crosshatch. Once the square has been cut, attach inside back decorative paper matching front design.

Accordion Frame: Die-cut two Fancy Label Accordion frames from a decorative print cardstock as directed in PDF instructions. Make sure you add the decorative label die inside the pivot panel before you die cut, so that you will make the pivot panel into a frame.

Attach to card base as directed in PDF instructions. Use tree trunk and hearts dies to decorate tree panel.

Tree-Add-On Panel: Replace the Trees Add-Ons for the Hearts Add-Ons in the PDF instructions. I cut out tree frames on the first and third panels by first die cutting the whole panel and then die cutting twice more with the cloud shaped tree leaves dies and tree trunk dies in the Trees Add-Ons set. I cut two more of the tree shaped frames to cover and reinforce the back side of the tree panel.

Attach to pivot panel and card as shown in PDF instructions.

Sentiments & Decorations: I used printed sentiments and border strips from the paper collection to finish decorating the card covering all of the green cardbase.

Envelope: Fits into a 6×9 catalog envelope with a back flap decorated with decorative paper strip.

Birthday Card For A Coffee Lover

This card was made for Craft Roulette #217 whose parameters included for A2 Project, French cafe colors, June element and polka dots.

This is a card for a coffee lover with a June birthday and also celebrates the USA Flag Day on 14^th of June.

Cardbase: The paper pad is 8 x8-inches, so the base piece was trimmed to 5 1/2 x 8-inches and scored 4 1/4-inches from the left edge.

Sentiments: The tag sentiments were cut from the paper collection. Gold junk mail was used to cut the “Happy Birthday.”

Envelope: A tag sentiment was glued to the back flap of the A2 envelope.

Slider Easel Card

When is an easel not an easel? When it is a flattened easel slider card. This card slides open to reveal two hidden messages.

Stamp images onto white cardstock using a dark brown ink and heat emboss with clear embossing powder to set ink.
Using watercolor pencils color images and then use water and brush to blend colors. Let dry.
Rough cut images and glue to heavy cardstock. Let dry and then fussy cut out images.
Take one printed card front and on back side make lines 1 inch (25 mm) from all edges.
Using a blade knife and metal ruler, cut three lines in card front to form a door flap.
Using a score board, score door flap at ½ inch (12 mm), 2 ¼ inches (55 mm) and 5 inches (127 cm) from door flap bottom edge. Fold door flap with valley folds at ends and mountain fold in middle.
Cut second printed card front down to 6 1/2 inches (170 mm) x 4 3/8 inches (110 mm). make a cutting template for top by folding scrap paper the is 4 3/8 inches wide in half and cutting out design. Trace template on to top of card and cut out. Punch hole in center top for pull ribbon. Thread ribbon through punched hole and tie off ribbon. This is slider card.
Using a 1 inch (25 mm) wide circle punch, cut a half circle at top center edge. Place double-sided tear tape at edges on three sides of back of printed card with door flap leaving top edge with half circle untaped. Peel off backing tape and place a second layer of tape on top of first layer of tape. Place one layer of red backed double-sided tape on back of bottom tap of door flap.
Stamp sentiment on top half of slider card using stamp platform.
Peel off red backing on taped door flap tab. Place slider card face down on back side of door flap card so that it is inside the three taped edges and the ribbon pull is at the half circle end. Adhere taped edge of door flap to slider card. Turn over card front and test slider so easel comes up. Reposition or trim slider card to eliminate catchpoints.
Position 5 x 7 inches colored cardstock over back of printed card front. Peel off backing tape and line up one edge at a time until slider pocket is formed.
Using a stamp platform, place card with ease up revealing hidden space to be stamped. Stamp sentiment.
Decorate the slider easel by laying out stamped images on flatten card and playing with slider to see how and where to place double-sided sticky foam squares to one side of easel or other. Decorate card front frame edges with sticky backed gems, but do not block easel slider.
A simple sketch showing how the card functions may need to be included in the mailing envelope for good CRX (Card Receiver Experience).
