Cocoa Mug Pop-Up Christmas Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #246 whose parameters included for a holiday card, tree colors, drinking vessel(s), and something from the floor. (Watch the video to find out what was from my floor.)

Cardbase:  I used a purchased kraft paper cardbase that measures 4.25×11-inches when open and folded is an A2 side-fold card measuring 4.25-inches wide and 5.5-inches tall. The four panels were covered with decorative papers from my stash (Sorry, I don’t know the manufacturer of either paper.)

Pop-Up Mug:  I modified the Flower Pot Pop-Up by cutting off the folder over flaps on the flower pot and added a handle cut from the mug die from the Tea and Coffee Pop-Up set. (See the video for how the mug was assembled.) Marshmallows are from the Camping Charms while the candy cane comes from the Stocking Pop-Up.

Cookies: The round, jam-filled two-layer Linzer cookie is cut using a scalloped circle die and small star die. The jam is made with Nuvo Glitter Drops and Glossy Accents.  The star cookie was cut with an embossing die using an embossing sandwich on my die-cutting machine. The powdered sugar is white spray ink.

Sentiments:  On the card front is a die-cut “Merry Christmas” made using just the word shadow and words from the Merry Christmas Lorna Add-Ons set. Inside the card two fancy labels were cut from white cardstock using the Rectangles and Labels – Crosshatch and one was stamped in black with “Keep Warm and drink Hot Cocoa” from the Winter Hugs stamp set.

Envelope:  The card fits into a purchased A2 (4.25x 5.5-inches) size kraft paper envelope. Another candycane was glued to the back flap of the envelope.

A Christmas Pop-Up Card – A Great White Shark

This card was inspired by a pun on the Bing Crosby classic “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” song. It uses dies by Karen Burniston and stamps by Riley and Company.

Cardbase:  Cut an 8.75 x7.5-inch rectangle of 65lb. white cardstock and score and fold in half to form an 8.75 x3.25-inch top-fold slimline card base. Cover using decorative papers.

Pop-Ups:  Watch the assembly videos for the Lorna Label Pop-Up and the Piano Keys Pop-Up by click on the links and looking for the videos at the bottom of each link’s page.

Decorations: For the musical notes and piano are from the Music Charms set while the shark inside is from the Sea Animals set. The shark border on the card back is from the Beach Borders set. The sharks were cut in white and colored with a gray marker.

Sentiments: The Lorna Add-Ons of  Merry Christmas and Just A Note were used along with the shark sentiments from Riley and Company.

Envelope:  The card will need to be mailed in a bubble wrap envelope because of its size and thickness.

“UP” – A Pop-Up Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #223 (craftroulette.live) whose parameters included a smaller/larger project, planet colors, house(s) element and white border.

Cardbase: Fold an 8.5×11-inch sheet of white cardstock in half to form a side fold 5.5×8.5-inch A9 cardbase. Cover with decorative papers leaving a white border around each card panel.

Sentiments: The sentiments are stamped in black ink except for the “Home is wherever I am with you” which was stamped in blue ink before the clouds were inked blended on using a Distress oxide blue ink onto plain copier paper. All sentiments are from the two Kindred Stamps sets listed below.

Envelope: The card fits into a catalog size 6×9-inch envelope.

Gone Fishing – A Pop-Up Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #220 whose parameters included for a card for a dude, dragon colors, basket(s) and chart(s).

I chose to make a fishing lure pop-up birthday card using stamp and dies by Stampin’ Up, HoneyBee Stamps, Karen Burniston and Waffle Flower.

Cardbase: I started with an A6 (4 1/2 x 6 1/4-inches) sized purchased cardbase with matching envelope.

Halloween Book

This card was made for Craft Roulette #186 whose parameters included a dude card, library colors, large flower(s) and stitched.

These parameters suggested a book box with a pop-up surprise to me. I followed Nicki Baxley’s idea of using an embossing folder with flowers for the cover of the book and Mary Gunn’s idea of a 3D book.

Before the show, I had been experimenting with a new Stampin’ Up stamp and die bundle of skeletons so I had a number of heat embossed skeletons ready. I also had been playing with a Whimsey Stamps ATC Book die set.

Book Box: Watch this video to see how the book box is assembled. Next, die cut two book cover pieces from kraft cardstock along with one of the box base piece from kraft cardstock and another from textured black cardstock. Run over one book cover with an embossing folder and color the flower centers with a yellow marker. Then trim off the front embossed cover and glue it to the top of the other book cover piece. Stamp the book title sentiment onto the embossed book spine and trim it off to be glued onto the top of the other book cover piece. With Distress Ink, age the book cover along the edges, spine and over the embossed flowers. Use a thin brown marker to color stitch marks embossed into book cover and closure strap.

Assemble the kraft box base. Cut off the tabs of the black box base piece and then trim off the four side pieces. Glue the black base into the kraft box bottom and then glue in black side pieces. Stamp sentiments to inside of book cover. Glue box onto inside bottom panel of plain book cover piece.

Book Pages: Cut three pieces of white cardstock the same width as the end sides and then trim to fit the outside of the box. Glue the white strips to the outside edges of the box. With a fine tipped dark marker, draw thin lines on all the white strips to represent page edges.

Skeletons:  Stamp skeleton pieces onto black cardstock with watermark ink. Heat emboss with white detail embossing powder. Use dies to cut out pieces. Glue a jumping skeleton together. Cut an 11-inch by 1/4-inch strip of black cardstock. Fold strip in half and begin folding one strip end over the other to form a spring. Glue spring to the back of skeleton. Attach spring to inside of box. Add cat skeleton below the skeleton’s feet.

Sentiments: Stamp the “No Bones about it, you’re a sweet friend” sentiment on embossed book spine before gluing the piece onto book cover. Stamp the inside sentiments “Happy Halloween” and “BOO to you” before the box is glued inside the cover.

Stamping Up Some Fall Fun

Last week I went to a cardmaking class using stencils taught by Donna Butler and had a chance to catch-up with some crafty friends I hadn’t seen in a while. Here are the cards I made.

EMBOSSED FALL LEAVES CARD

We embossed the stencil first into the top panel and then inked the piece. Inside and on the envelope we masked off a portion of the stencil to single out various elements.

SUNFLOWER CARD

Using several shades of ink easily created these striking flowers with 4-part layered stencils.
