Bob’s Tackle Box Birthday Card

It’s time for the Karen Burniston Design Team July 2026 Challenge whose theme is BOX or BLOCKS. I chose to make a pop-up card in the form of a tackle box using the Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-Up mechanism.

Cardbase: I folded a 10×7-inch piece of cardstock in half to make a 5×7-inch top fold cardbase. Next, I rounded the corners with a large corner rounder punch. (You could also use scissors to round the corners.) I ended up using splatters of white, bronze and black paint to decorate the card front and back beside using brown ink to blend the card edges.

Handle: Using the rounded corner panel dies in the Twist Panel Pop-Up, cut a handle as shown in the video above and glue onto the front of the card.

Latch Mechanism: The latch is cut from the set using the Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-Up long strip die and trimming off the end with the slots. (Follow the instructions in the video above.) The lock comes from the Treasure Chest set. The “PULL” label was cut from silver using a die from the Waterfall Card die set. I used two thin magnets to close the latch.

Trays Pop-Up: (View die set’s assembly video by clicking on the die set and scrolling to the bottom of the linked page.) Inside the card two trays pop-up using the Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-Up. See the video above for how I installed it inside the the card using the latch strip. The top tray is made of two strips 2×6.625-inches of heavy cardstock covered with decorative paper. One piece has had four squares cut into it using a 1.4-inch square die from the Squares – Crosshatch set. The bottom tray is made from two strips 2.375×6.625-inches of heavy cardstock covered with decorative paper. One of the bottom tray pieces was cut with three rectangles using the pieces rectangle from the Waterfall Card set. Watch the video above for the assembly.

Fishing Lures: The Fishing Lure Charms were used for the lures. I followed the packaging pictures for how I made them. (If you want an explanation and tips for how to assemble the lures, view my video for Here Fishy, Fishy…A Father’s Day Card and watch the video above.)

Sentiments: The front sticker of “Gone Fishing” and the inside “Here Fishy, Fishy” are from the Fishing stamp set with the oval cut using the small oval in the Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-Up. “Happy Birthday” inside the card uses Happy Birthday word die and its shadow die. “Bob’s Tackle Box” was written with a black marker as it might be written on a real box.

Envelope: The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inches) size envelope with “Every day is a good day when you’re fishing” stamped on the back flap from the Fishing stamp set.

Gift Card Holder Wallet

This card was made for Craft Roulette #326 whose parameters were: a dude’s card, sleigh ride colors, farm critter(s) element and pen random. I used Honey Bee Stamps Gallery Wall Gentlemen Add-On and Lovely Layers Wallet.

Wallet: I used brown, faux-leather, textured cardstock to create this wallet swiped with black ink to bring out the texture.The Wallet die set is used for all the pieces. From the faux leather cardstock, cut one of the long base piece, one of the frame pocket, one of the short strip and two of the plain pocket (trim one pocket 1″ shorter than the other.) Assemble as shown in the video above. Attach closure strip with adhesive only on the end ends of the strip and add as shown in video. Glue on brass brads/buttons to strip and tab.

Gift Card Holder: From the Wallet die set, cut the rectangular gift card holder which has four slots from some kraft cardstock. (I added the gentleman fox image as a placeholder for a gift card.)

Sentiments: I left off any sentiments on this card to personalize it for a special occasion. The two inside cards are cut with the frame pocket die in the Wallet die set and could have sentiments stamped on them. The card recipient’s initials were added to the wallet from using Karen Burniston’s Mini Alphabet and Numbers.

Gentleman Fox: Using Honey Bee Stamps Gallery Wall Gentlemen Add-On, cut one orange base silhouette, one black jacket and lapels, one set of creamy white neck and ears, one set of black nose and eyes. Assemble as shown on layering guide. Use a fine-tipped black pen to highlight the embossed details.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inches) envelope.

Don’t Be Alarmed Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #325 whose parameters were: flip fold card, tartan colors, time or clock element and add a bow random. I used This Calls for Confetti and Simon Says Stamp! dies & stamps and digital papers from Relatively Thoughtful for this A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) card and envelope.

Cardbase: Printed out three 8.5×11-inch sheets of digital papers from the Independent Women Authors collection by Relatively Thoughtful (two solid colors and one patterned paper.) From purple, I cut a 4.25×9.8125-inch an scored and folded at 5.5-inches. From green, I cut a 3.9375×5-inch rectangle. From the patterned paper I cut a 3.625×4.75-inch rectangle. I also cut a 1.5×4.25-inch purple rectangle.

To assemble, I centered and glued the patterned paper onto the green piece. Next, the small purple piece was glued at the bottom of the long side of the long purple cardbase over the white inside so that when the card is closed it looks like solid purple base. Center the green/pattern paper rectangle onto the short flap of the purple cardbase and glue. (Stamp the sentiments before adding the dimensional clock and bow to card back.)

Sentiments: The inside sentiments of “Don’t be alarmed” and “The hour is drawing near,” come from This Calls For Confetti’s Don’t Be Alarmed stamp set. “Happy Birthday” and “Put a bow on it!” are in the Simon Says Stamp! Put A Bow On It stamp set.

Clock: Using the This Calls For Confetti Moments in Time dies, cut from silver all the clock pieces with the exception of the circle frame and clock face. Using both the circle frame and clock face dies together to cute the clock frame from silver holographic cardstock. Turn the holographic clock face over to the white back side and glue onto the clock back piece. Adhere the bells and decorative pieces to clock back piece. (I wish I had popped-up the bells with foam tape.) Using double-side tape adhere a piece of clear plastic acetate to the circle frame back and trim away the excess plastic. Double-up the foam tape to make it 2mm thick and place the tape onto the acetate so that it is hidden behind the circle frame. (I originally was going to make this a shaker card, but I decided to glue the Trinity Stamps – Sparkle Spots onto the clock face because it looked better.) Glue the completed clock onto the card front.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inches) envelope with a bow and “Put a bow on it” stamped on the back flap in black ink. Stamps are from Simon Says Stamp!.

Z-Fold Pop-Up Golf Themed Father’s Day Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #320 whose parameters were: z-fold card, Summer vacation colors, game(s) element and add a cat random. I used Karen Burniston dies and Crackerbox Stamps for this A7 (5×7-inch) card and envelope.

Cardbase: I took a purchased A7 (5×7-inch) white cardbase and folded the front panel at 2-inchs from the corner for a z-fold cardbase. Next, I cut panels of green textured paper and covered the three inside panels and used a leftover scrap to cover the left half of the front of the card.

Golfer Pop-Up: Stamp golfer on white cardstock in black and color in pants and hair and shoes. Rough cut the shape of golfer and glue green paper to back side. Fussy cut the golfer. Die cut two of the Flip Frame Pop-Up arm mechanism from white 65lb. cardstock. Cut one more mechanism arm from the green paper. (Watch assembly video at bottom of linked page for Flip Frame Pop-Up.) Set aside one of the white arms for the golf ball in next step. With the remaining white arm, train the folds as shown in the video above. Cut apart the green arm into sections to cover the exposed sides of the white arm. (The two largest sections go on the top of mechanism and save the tab pieces to cover the back sides of the tabs once the mechanism is glued into the cardbase.) Glue in the arm at the top of the main inside fold of cardbase. Glue the golfer to the front face of the mechanism as shown in the videos, making sure that golf club doesn’t stick out of the fold close card.

Golf Ball Pop-Up: Cut one of the Flip Frame Pop-Up arm mechanism from the backside of the green paper. Train the folds of the reserved white arm backwards from the arm used for the golfer. Cover the arm using the green paper arm sections as done in the last step for the golfer’s mechanism. Stamp two golf balls on white cardstock and fussy cut out. Cut a strip of clear acetate (plastic) about 3/8-inch by 2-inches. With the stamped sides out, sandwich, using double-sided tape, the acetate strip between the two balls. Set aside. Practice laying-out where the second mechanism arm will be glued into the card so that the golfer won’t become a catch-point for the second mechanism. (I didn’t do this step and ended up having to remove the second arm. You can see the divots from that mistake to the right of the golfer’s feet.) Once the arm mechanism is glued and dry. Test fit the ball strip and determine the length of the plastic strip so that the ball fits inside the card. Attach strip to front of arm mechanism with double-sided tape. (You can add a grassy decoration piece over the base of the strip.)

Sentiments: The outside sentiment of “FORE!” is made up of die-cut letters from Karen Burniston’s Alphabet dies. Inside the sentiment is made with her Happy Father’s Day shadow and word dies. The white label for a personal message is from the Flip Frame Pop-Up set. The funny golf sentiment on the card back is from Crackerbox Stamps.

Envelope: The card fits into an A7 (5×7-inches) envelope with “The grass is always green on the golf course” stamped on the back flap in green ink. Stamp is from Crackerbox Stamps.

Jungle Waterfall Easel Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #323 whose parameters were: A7 card, pretty colors, photo booth element and geometric shapes for random. I used Spellbinders Weekender 2026 dies and stamps for an A7 easel (5×7-inch) card with a photo strip bookmark with photos of how to open and display the card.

Cardbase: I cut three rectangles to make the cardbase: Dark Blue – 5×7-inches, Light Blue – 4.25×5.5-inches and 4×6-inches. Score and fold the 4×6 rectangle at .5-inches and 3-inches as shown in the video above.

Waterfall: Using the Rainforest Falls die set and instruction PDF, cut two sets of all the rock pieces using four to five shades of gray cardstock. Make a total of three of each of the two smallest rocks. (I used gray markers to get my extra shades of gray to make the rocks look different from each other.) Make two sets of the water splashes and pooling water using several shades of blue cardstock. Make one of the waterfall. (I added more contrast to my water features with a blue marker. I also brushed on Nuvo Glitter Gloss shimmer over all the water and areas on the rocks that might be splashed.)

Sky: Using the cloud edging dies in the Rainforest Falls die set, tape together the two dies to make a continuous cut on 5×1.5-inch strips of red, orange and yellow cardstock. Cut one semi-circle from the brightest yellow. Assemble card as shown in the video above. (I inked the top edge of my 4.25×5.5-inch rectangle panel to have a purplish hue to peak though behind the clouds.)

Decorations: Decorate the rocks with vines, foliage and flowers cut from the Jungle Blooms and Tiki Toucan die sets.I cut one of each foliage and vine dies in each set – once from light green and once from dark green. (I cut four each of the pink flowers with their yellow centers from the Jungle Blooms set.) In addition, I used Memory Box’s Tiny Frogs and Tonic Studio’s Tropical Rain Forest Silhouette‘s tiny butterfly die as embellishments. (There are three tiny frogs on the card and four tiny butterflies. Can you find them all?) Cut one brown branch from the Tiki Toucan die set to go across the stream.

Sentiments: The stamped sentiments come from the Go Wild stamp & die set and were stamped in a teal blue ink.

Photo Strip Bookmark: Once the card was finished I photographed it in the closed and open positions with a side view to demonstrate the easel. Next, I printed the photos as 1-inch wide and generated the title “How to open card for display.” Using Karen Burniston’s Movie Night Charms, I cut from black shimmer cardstock, the filmstrip. Next, I trimmed the photos and title to fit the film strip and glued them into the frames. I backed the entire strip with thin white computer paper. Envelope: The card fits into an A7 (5×7-inch) envelope with the sentiment from the Go Wild stamp set that says “Life’s a jungle.”

Just Popping Up To Say Happy Father’s Day

It’s time for the Karen Burniston Design Team June 2026 Challenge whose theme is Flag Colors – using the colors of each designer’s national flag. For me it is red, white and blue. I choose to make a star themed Father’s Day card.

Cardbase: I folded a 6×9-inch piece of pattern cardstock in half to make a 4.5×6-inch side fold cardbase. Next, I added two 4.125 x 5.375- inch mats cut with the largest die in the Rectangles – Crosshatch set. I added a star from the Label Charm Pop-Up die set to the back of the card.

Flip Frame Pop-Up: Inside the card is a simple pop-up mechanism made using the Flip Frame Pop-Up die set. (View assembly video by clicking on the die set and scrolling to the bottom of the linked page.) See the video above for how I installed it.

Sentiments: The front sentiment of “Just Popping Up To Say” is cut from two die sets – Word Set 4 – Just a Note and Word Set 15 – Just Because. The inside sentiment uses both the shadow and words from the Happy Father’s Day set. The white personal message label is a stitch rectangle embossed with a scalloped die – both from the Flip Frame Pop-Up set.

Envelope: The card fits into an A6 (4.75x 6.5-inches) size envelope with “Happy Father’s Day” stamped on the back flap from the Fishing stamp set.

Monet Waterlilies Inspired Birthday Pop-Up Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #321 whose parameters were: gatefold card, Monet colors, natural element and crinkle inkle (inking technique) random. I used Karen Burniston dies and stamps for this slimline (4×8 5/8-inch) card.

Cardbase: Cut a 12×8 5/8-inch rectangle of green cardstock. Score at 2-inches, 4-inches, 8-inches and 10-inches. Fold as shown in the video above. Using the fourth smallest die from the Circles – Crosshatch set, cut four circles into the double gate fold sides as shown in the video.

Crinkle Inkle: Using bubble wrap as an inking tool, add blue ink texture to the closed front of the card. (Make sure to put scrap paper inside the card to mask the back panel from ink.)

Window Frames: Cut four circular frames from blue cardstock using the fourth and fifth smallest dies from the Circles – Crosshatch set. Using double-sided tape, attach the frames to both sides of a piece of acetate and trim the plastic to fit frames. Glue frames onto card front as shown in video.

Flower Pop-Ups: (Watch the assembly video for the Twist Flower Pop-Up at the bottom of the linked page.) Cut two of the Twist Flower Pop-Up mechanism die from green cardstock and assemble as shown in the videos above. Cut two of the large flowers, centers and stitched rings. Assemble and attach to the pop-up mechanisms as shown in the video. From the Fun Flowers die set. Cut four green leaves and a variety of small flowers and flower centers. Decorate the large flower centers with a smaller flower and use the remaining small flowers for the belly band label.

Sentiments: The front, belly band sentiment “Wishing You Sunshine and Rainbows” and the inside “Happy Birthday” were stamped in black ink using the Rainbow Greetings stamp set. The Circles – Crosshatch dies were used to cut the labels for the sentiments.

Belly Band: Wrap loosely around the center of the folded closed card a 1 ½-inch x 8 ½-inch strip of yellow – green vellum. Making sure that the strip will easily slide off the card, trim and glue the ends together. Attach the sentiment circle decorated with tiny flowers over the band glued seam.

Envelope: The card fits into a #10 business (4. x 9-inches) size envelope.

Father’s Day Card for a Navy Man

I’m here today with a pop-up ship Father’s Day card full using Relatively Thoughtful digital papers – A collection called The Royal Navy Heritage Collection.

Cardbase: From the The Royal Navy Heritage Collection digital paper collection, I printed single-sided 65lb. lightweight cardstock of the blue neckerchief design. (When the neckerchief is cut out, it makes a 5.25×7.5-inch side-fold card.) Next I printed out on cardstock the blue & white striped page, and the small waves on thin white paper. Using the Karen Burniston Rectangle and Labels – Crosshatch die set, I cut two large crosshatch rectangles from the striped cardstock and two smaller rectangles from the wave paper. The rectangles were glued inside the cardbase as shown in the video above.

Card Decorations: I printed on thin white paper, the images of the ships used on the front and the back of the card from the The Royal Navy Heritage Collection. The small tag on the back is also from the same collection.

Ship Pop-Up: I used the Karen Burniston’s 1277 – Boat Pop-Up and 1296 – Cruise Ship Add-Ons dies to create the gray pop-up naval ship. (Watch the video above for assembly.)

Sentiments: Karen Burniston dies sets of Thank You, Happy Father’s Day, Greeting Labels, Thank You Shadow and Mini Alphabet and Numbers were used for all the card sentiments.

Envelope:  The card fits into a catalog (6×9-inches) envelope with “Thank you for always being there” stamped on the back flap in navy ink using Karen Burniston’s Thank You Phrases stamp set.

Hello, I’m Thinking Of You

This card was made for Craft Roulette #319 whose parameters were: 4 Bar (3 5/8×4 7/8-inch) card, wedding colors, sweet(s) element and a touch of gray random. I used a Spellbinder’s 3D embossing folder and stamp sets by Karen Burniston and Scrapbook.com.

Cardbase: I took a 7×5-inch rectangle of lightweight cardstock and scored and folded in half to form a side-fold 3.5×5-inch card.

HELLO: The front panel of the card was embossed with the Spellbinder’s Beveled Hello A2 Cardfront 3D embossing folder. (I spritzed the lightweight white cardstock with water before I ran it through in the embossing folder.) NNext I trimmed it down to fit the cardbase and added a touch of gray by using a glitter gloss marker on the bottom bevel sides of the letters. Tiny polymer clay peppermint and swirled sweets were glued on for accents.

Sentiments: The inside sentiment and hearts come from Scrapbook.com’s A Little Reminder stamp set and were stamped in pink and gray inks.

Envelope: The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inches) envelope with “Life is Sweet” stamped on the back flap in pink. Stamp is from Karen Burniston’s Sweet Treats set.
