Zoyfold Christmas Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #314 whose parameters were: a zoyfold (z-fold with joyfold) card, Easter egg colors, seal(s)(ing) element and 4-square. I created this 5-inch square card using Emily Moore Designs dies.

Cardbase: Watch the assembly video above for how to create the zoyfold card base. The z-fold is made from an 111×5-inch sheet of white cardstock, scored and folded at 3-inches and 6-inches. The triangular joyfold card is a square cut using the largest scalloped rectangle die in the Emily Moore Designs’ Decorative Sentiments Dies set.

Decorations: I used scraps of Anna Griffin Paisley paper to cover the card. The wax seal & ribbon uses Spellbinder’s Autumn wax bead mix, Sam Calcott’s Made to Surprise Christmas wax seal stamps, and the large fishtail banner from Emily Moore Designs’ Decorative Sentiments Dies. two small magnets from Scrappy Tails were glued and taped on to the underside of the seal to hold the card shut.

Sentiments: While the wax seal has “Merry Christmas” on it, the inside banner has “Peace & Joy.” The seal stamper and my wax seal stamp kit are by Sam Calcott’s Made to Surprise, while the banner sentiment comes from the Spellbinder’s Design A Plaid BetterPress set. The banner base is a die in the Emily Moore Designs’ Decorative Sentiments Dies.

Card Back

Envelope:  The card is thick because of the wax seal and would be hand delivered.

Java Joe’s Coffee Cafe Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #313 whose parameters were: a bridge card, salad colors, “starts with J” element and swipe(s)(ing). I created this 4.25×5.375-inch A2 card using Honey Bee Stamps and dies.

Cardbase: Watch the assembly video above for how to create the back bit of cardbase from a 4.25×5.875-inch rectangle scored at .25 on each short side. Cut two 6×6-inch pieces of patterned paper into eight 1.5-inch strips to act as the bridge pillars to connect the coffee bar to the back card base.

Coffee Bar: There are lots of small decorative pieces in the Honey Bee Lovely Layers: Coffee Bar die set. (See the Layer Guide to determine how they go together.) Cut four of the large bar die from red. Cut four of the awning from green and four of the awning fringe from a cream mica sprayed cardstock.

Signs: Swipe the sign dies with brown ink cube before die-cutting. Cut two of the large sign die and four of the small coffee sign die. (I cut one of the large sign and did not ink it to create my JAVA JOE’S sign using a fine line marker.)

Sentiments: The “May your coffee be as sweet as you” on the inside of the card and the “How have you bean?” come from the Honey Bee You Had Me At Coffee stamp set.

Envelope:  The card fits into an A2 (4.25×5.5-inch) size envelope with a stamped sentiment and two tiny die cuts of a coffee pot and and a bag of coffee beans both colored with alcohol markers.

Circus Themed Pop-Up Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #308 whose parameters were: a card with a bookmark, circus colors, hug(s) element and feather(s)/(ing). I used dies from Karen Burniston and My Favorite Things to make this tri-fold, 5×7-inch pop-up birthday card.

Cardbase: (Watch the video above for assembly instructions.) Using two purchase 5×7-inch cardbases, glue them together to form a tri-fold card.

Hugging Arms: Follow the video above to see how 14 of the feathers cut using Karen Burniston’s Peacock Add-Ons die set were used with the two pink hands cut using My Favorite Thing’s Crafty Hands die set.

Photo Gallery Pop-Up: Cut two of the large pop-up gallery strips and their attachment triangle tabs from white cardstock using Karen Burniston’s Photo Gallery Pop-Up dies. Cover the strips with glitter paste as described in the video above and spray the tabs with mica sprays. Allow to dry before assembling. Cut the images to glued to the photo gallery using the largest rectangle die in Karen Burniston’s Greeting Labels die set.

Sentiments: On the card front is “Hugs” which is die cut twice from pink using Karen Burniston’s Word Set 9 – Love, glued together and the edges inked in brown to match the other signs cut from the Stamperia paper collection – Master of Magic. The “Happy Birthday Wishes” on the two train tickets were stamped using Honey Bee Stamps Ticket To Ride set.(See more about the making of these bookmarks by clicking here.)

Train Birthday Card

This card was made for Craft Roulette #298 whose parameters were: an A6 card, Gummi Bear colors, rhymes with “-ack” element and tearing. I used Scrappy Tails dies and Honey Bee Stamps to create this card.

Cardbase: I used a purchased American size A6 (4 5/8×6 1/4-inches) cream-colored, cardbase and matching envelope.

Train: The train and brick frame come from the Scrappy Tails Train Station Pop-Up Tunnel Card die set. Watch video above for details on assembly.

Sentiments: “Happy Birthday Wishes” on a train ticket stamped and die cut using the Honey Bee Stamps Ticket To Ride. Punch a small hole and thread some embroidery floss through the hole and tie.

Envelope: The panel card fits into an A6 (4 3/4×6 1/2-inches) size envelope with the back flap stamped with the train ticket in black.

Honey Bee Stamps – Nutcracker card

Welcome to Day 8 of my Nutcracker series using a variety of stamps and die sets to make some nutcracker themed cards. My card today uses products by Honey Bee Stamps – Nutcracker die set as well as The Greetery’s 3D embossing folder – Shortbread Shapes Snowflake, Spellbinders’ Happy Holidays die set and Art Impressions Nutcracker stamp.

Cardbase: (I used a purchased A7 (5×7-inches) cardbase and matching envelope in white for this card.) Emboss a 6×8-inch piece of lightweight white cardstock using The Greetery’s Shortbread Shapes Snowflake 3D embossing folder, misting the folder before inserting the cardstock to emboss, following the sandwich instructions for your die-cutting machine. Once embossed, let the piece dry under the weight of the embossing fold with a large stamping block on top. Next, trim the embossed piece down to its embossed edges. Placing the trimmed edge at the folded edge of the cardbase, glue the embossed piece to the card front. Trim off excess of the embossed panel.

Nutcracker: Using Honey Bee Stamps’ Nutcracker die set, create your nutcracker as shown on the packaging or in the video above.. (There are many tiny pieces, so I found it easiest to glue pieces together as I cut them so I wouldn’t loose them.)

Sentiments: The inside sentiment of “Happy Holidays” was die cut from red cardstock using the Spellbinders’ die set of the same name.

Envelope: The panel card fits into an A7 size envelope with a nutcracker on the envelope back using Hero Art’s Nutcracker stamp stamped in black ink.

Spellbinders – Dancing Nutcracker Card

Welcome to Day 4 of my Nutcracker series using a variety of stamps and die sets to make some nutcracker themed cards. My card today uses products by Spellbinders – Dancin’ Nutcracker Fritz and Happy Holidays die sets and Honey Bee Stamps Soulful Season 3D embossing folder as well as Hero Arts’ A Little Nuts stamp set.

Cardbase: Emboss a 5.5-8.5 piece of white 65lb. cardstock using the Honey Bee Stamps Soulful Season 3D embossing folder following the directions in the video above. Trim down to a 5×7-inch panel. Glue to the front of an A7 (5×7-inch) cardbase. (I used a purchased cardbase and envelope.)

Nutcracker & Drum: Referring to the image of the nutcracker on the packaging for the Spellbinders Dancin’ Nutcracker Fritz die set, cut out all the pieces using your own color scheme. Cut a black strip to go behind the face for the eyes. (I cut two drums – one for the front and one for the card back along with drum sticks.) Assemble nutcracker and drums as shown in video above.

Sentiments: Using the Spellbinders Happy Holidays die set, cut from red paper. (I upcycled a red envelope.)

Envelope: The panel card fits into an A7 size envelope with a nutcracker and “Nutcracker is my favorite season” on the envelope back using the Hero Arts’ A Little Nuts stamp set and blue ink.

Stenciled cards by the batch load

Needing a lot of cards, I decided to stencil some A7 size card bases to make some special pop-up birthday cards for a card exchange.  Here are the 10 cards I made using purchased card bases with matching envelopes.

Cardbase: I used five white cardbases and envelopes by Park Lane and five kraft paper cardbases and envelopes by American Crafts.

Pop-Up Mechanism: The pop-up mechanism that lifts the “Happy Birthday” and balloons is Karen Burniston’s Katherine Label Pop-Up. (Watch an assembly video for it by clicking on the die name and scrolling down to the bottom of the linked page.)

Stenciling: I used three different stencils and two different colors of stencil pastes. First, I taped down the cardbase to a piece of packing paper (think brown craft paper/newsprint) next I taped the stencil to the scrap paper over the cardbase and applied the stencil paste using a disposable plastic knife left from a take-out meal. Between each card, I washed the stencil and knife.

Sentiments:  The “Hello” and “Happy Birthday” die cut sentiments, balloons and pop-up mechanism are all by Karen Burniston. The stamped birthday verse is by Craft Roulette and stamped in brown ink.

Gilded Pop-up Birthday Cards

Needing some birthday cards and wanting to try out some brass colored Shimmer Relief Paste from Altenew, I made these stenciled-with-paste, card fronts and embellished them with ribbon and a Karen Burniston“hello” two-piece die cut.  Inside is a Karen Burniston pop-up greeting and a Craft Roulette inspired verse.

Cardbase: I used purchased A7 (5×7-inch) cardbases that I stenciled the fronts with Shimmer Relief Paste and stencils by Honey Bee Stamps (Scattered Seeds) and Scrapbook.com (Hearts). The card backs feature a single balloon from the Big Birthday Charms die set.

Pop-Up: Watch the assembly video for the Katherine Label. Stamp the verse inside the card before adding the mechanism. (I found that gluing the bottom word onto the mechanism worked best to avoid catchpoints, including the two added balloons.)

Sentiments:  All the inside die cut sentiments used on the card come Karen Burniston designs including the Katherine Label mechanism that pops the “Happy Birthday” up with its Big Birthday Charms balloons. The stamped verse is from Craft Roulette’s Funn Sentiments #01.

Envelope:  The card fits into an A7 (5x 7-inches) size envelope stamped with “HBD” on the back flap from Craft Roulette’s Funn Sentiments #01.

This card was made for Craft Roulette #241 whose parameters included a z-fold card, scarecrow colors, bake element, and crinkle inkle technique. This card is also the fourth day in my shelf card series.

Cardbase: The cardbase is an A2 size but is 1/2-inch thick. The z-fold base is made from a 5 1/2×11-inch rectangle folded at 5 1/2-inches and 2 3/4-inches. The buffet easel is made from two rectangles (4 1/4×6 1/2-inches and 4 1/4×3 3/4-inches) each scored and folded at 1/2 and 1-inch of the 4 1/4-inch side. Watch video for how to fold and glue.

Lights: Watch video for how to install the EZ-lights.

Sentiment: “Merry Christmas” is die cutting three layers of cardstock and PoppyStamps dies. It is popped-up on think foam squares to act as the easel stopper. The card back is left blank for a personal message.

CRX Sheet: The Card Recipient Experience (CRX) Sheet is a set of instructions on how to open and set-up the card and turn on the lights.

Envelope: This card will be hand delivered or mailed in a box.
